About Sandra Garcia
My name is Sandra Garcia, I am a middle child, and this is my story.
After graduating from University, I worked at a PR and Events firm where I learned the ropes of event planning and media relations. After nearly two years, I found that the corporate world just wasn’t for me, and started freelancing for businesses. Six months and many courses later, I started Middle Child Marketing Inc., and decided to do things my way.
Since childhood, I’ve had a passion for language and visual art. I’ve had my poetry published in several journals and anthologies, and completed a degree in English Lit and Film Studies from UBC. In 2005, I helped to start a film festival, which celebrates its 3rd year as the Vancouver Short Film Festival, in 2012. I am the Festival Director and sit on the Board of Directors as Chair. In 2007, I saw a life-changing documentary named Earthlings and began my journey to becoming vegan as well as living an eco lifestyle. I was named Volunteer of the Year by Women in Film & Television Vancouver in 2009 for my work in publicizing the Vancouver Women in Film Festival and Spotlight Awards Gala.
In 2010 I started a blog called Middle Child Reviews, dedicated to event, food, product, and film reviews. Around this time I started to help businesses with editing and proofreading documents. Nowadays, people are jumping on the social media bandwagon, so I’ve started to consult on that, as well as general Publicity strategy. I was featured in the 3rd edition of the CRAVE Vancouver Guide that came out in November 2010 with my testimonial on the back cover. I am a current member of the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs BC Chapter.
